Started my UK Visa Application

Nearly $500 fee :(

I have to present myself in Denver on June 4 to have my biometrics information taken (fingerprints and photos).

Then I mail everything in.

Sounds approximately 1 billion times simpler than the Russian visa process.

Just posted a review of it at RateMyStudyAbroad.

Loan apps accepted

I’m going to England, baby!

Loan apps submitted

Just submitted all my loan application junk for the Stafford and PLUS loans on the studentloans.gov site and to the loan guy at Durham.

Received confirmation that my tuition deposit was received and I am for sure enrolled in University of Durham’s MA Modern History programme.

Left to do:

  • actually get my loans
  • apply for a visa
  • buy a plane ticket
  • fly to England
  • become a postgraduate student at one of the UK’s finest universities

I’d say things are looking pretty good.

The Study Abroad bug really has bit me!

Everything’s pretty official now: I’m going to England at the end of September to study for a MA in Modern History at University of Durham (in Durham, Durham).

I have been accepted into Ustinov College, the post-grad only society.

I have paid my tuition deposit.

So… in a couple months time this blog will start to be active again, but Anglo instead of Ruskii.

I’ll have to think of a new color scheme and title…

Any suggestions?

The Sacred War - Сиященная война - Svyaschennaya Voina

My WWII History professor just showed this in class and it reminded me of good times in still-WWII-obsessed Russia.

This is a hokey bit of Soviet propaganda from the 1980’s about the Russian victory in WWII.

Back in Colorado

After only one minor setback, Hillary and I made it back home on Wednesday night.  It sure is nice to be back home in Boulder, CO!

Russia: The Final Day

The first leg of our trip home today consisted of a 6:00am flight from Krasnodar to Moscow.  The flight went smoothly, and I got to see the most beautiful sunrise of my life.  As we approached Moscow, I could see the perfect sea of clouds below us and the horizon turn into a perfect rainbow spectrum.  A couple of stars were even still visible which added to the beauty.  As the plane turned around to descend, I was no longer looking east, but then I noticed the glow of the Moscow city lights peeking as a faint glow through the clouds.

I should have taken a picture, but alas my camera was in the overhead bin, and the quality of any picture I took would have been dismal anyways.

Once we arrived in Moscow we found out that instead of a 4 hour layover followed by a flight to JFK, our flight had been canceled due to a blizzard in NY.  Luckily we quickly got spots on a flight leaving only 2 hours later than the other one.

There is still one hour until our flight leaves, and I have my fingers crossed that it doesn’t get canceled or delayed!

When Hill and I exited our dorm this morning we were wondering where the kittens were.
